Punta Ala Golf Club was established in 1964, with a specific inclination towards tourism, which has been kept over the years. The course was carved through the forest in a way that would hardly be possibile in the modern days; this makes the design of the course quite unique, both technically and esthetically; the undulated up and down hill terrain makes for very challenging lies. The reward for playing a course tougher (but funnier) than average are the amazing views, both to the sea and to the hills, that you can enjoy in almost every hole. The course is very challenging to play and requires a very precise game, especially through the pines present on each hole. In some holes these trees were used strategically (1, 2, etc.). The rating is correspondingly high (73.1 of yellow): a hard test even for the more skilled players, requiring shotmaking over power. Steep slopes, small and elevated two tiered greens, undulated and narrow fairways, thick brush, frequent doglegs make this a course able to keep up with the modern era golf. The strength of the clubhouse is its panoramic position: from the terrace and from the dining room you can enjoy stunning views over the Gulf of Follonica and over the 1st, 9th and 10th holes. The course is pretty tiring if you walk, make sure you get water to hydrate you; also the driving range requires a couple of minutes walk to reach; keep that in mind not to be late on the first tee; many people use the golf cart, which is a pity, because the views are so beautiful that you need to walk in order to fully enjoy them, but renting an electric trolley is recommended.
La Sugherosa is located 5 minutes by car from the Golf Club Punta Ala.
